12 Apr DJ M.E.M.O – Vinyl Addiction
A turntable king, expert at scratching, confessed vinyl addict, but also highly experienced techno deejay, M.E.M.O is the Costa del Sol’s answer to the Chemical Brother’s meets Carl Cox. He has shared a line-up with the likes of David Guetta, Orbital, The Prodigy and Jeff Mills and performed in world renowned clubs and festivals from Creamfields UK to Space in Ibiza.
Born, bred and raised in the province of Málaga, DJ M.E.M.O started his musical career at 15, playing the guitar and singing in a band with some friends in his home town. He was heavily influenced by Public Enemy, The Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers and got his hands on every vinyl possible imported to the Costa del Sol from the UK. It was at that point that he began working on scratching and just 2 years later, during the boom of the breakbeat era, he became a master of the technique, performing for audiences as big as 20,000 at the famous festival Satisfaxion.
From then on his career as a DJ went from strength to strength but he never lost his love for vinyls. He opened and ran a shop named Washing Machine Records in Barcelona while gigging from one club to another and in 2006 moved to Ibiza to take the scene there by storm. Use of turntables became his own personal signature, sometimes mixing with 2 or even 3 decks during a performance, converting a DJ set into an audiovisual show.
M.E.M.O has released records with labels such as 4line, Tip Tap, Lust and Amoeba. His EP “Raices” (Indigo Raw), includes a track that was charted and that formed part of the Carl Cox compilation “Revolution”. “Tai Tai”, his latest EP, is already massive and fans are begging for more.
