To tell the story of The Big Jamboree, you have to go back more than two decades, back in the early eighties when they called themselves Chevy & the Hot Wheels. Then they changed their name to Big Frank Jamboree; and finally, to this day, The Big Jamboree. In the late 90s Miguel Ángel García, former singer of one of the rock & roll formations widely known both inside and outside the Spanish borders (The NuNiles) joined the band and has been part of it for 8 years participating in the recording of his album “New Times Old Stuff”. Since the end of 2007 it is Agustí Burriel who leads the band, coming from styles like Doo-Woop and other bands like Velvet Candles. In short, The Big Jamboree is a group of 8 musicians with an extensive musical career and experience on stage, which year after year are improving their “flavor” like good wine.
The Big Jamboree is a band dedicated to performing Rhythm & Blues, Jump & Jive, Jump Blues and Rock’ n Roll from the 1950s. His repertoire includes his own compositions and arrangements of the band along with versions of songs from the 40s and 50s by such important artists as: Louis Prima, Big Joe Turner, Louis Jordan, Roy Brown, Wynonie Harrys etc…. The good atmosphere that is breathed in the stage at every moment, makes it not only a concert of music where basically predominates sound, but a musical show in which they also provide an interpretative stroke of grace, as was done in the 1940s and 50s. Hence its name: THE BIG JAMBOREE.
The Big Jamboree is a group that has participated in important national and international events (BCNHayride festival, Screaming Festival, Crossroad Festival, Mediatic Festival, Duke’s festival Cittaducale, Prat-Bonrepaux Country Rock Festival, etc…) and played in the most renowned venues within the Catalan music circuit; for a long time they have been regularly scheduled in the concert hall. Thanks to the success of the documentary, they were asked to perform on several occasions in the programme “La cosa nostra”, directed by Andreu Buenafuente (TV3 – Television of Catalonia), where they closed the year 1999 with the New Year’s Eve special.
They were also programmed for a long time at the Club La Boite in Barcelona. A very reputable hall where every week Blues and Rhythm & Blues stars performed both national and international. They have performed on numerous occasions at the Sala Jamboree in Plaza Real in Barcelona, a venue where renowned international and national jazz musicians currently perform. They have also shared the stage with American rock’ n’ roll stars such as Carl Perkins, and accompanied Hayden Thompson, Dale Hawkins, Barrence Whitfield, LLoyd Price at Rhythm Riot in the UK and Extraordinaires in Barcelona in 2015.
At the moment they are still appearing in the evening programme “Cava de Blues” on TV3 and can be seen at the time of the weekly broadcast.
With the premiere of the new album “A Night of Jump Blues” on February 11,2017 at the Sala Luz de Gas in Barcelona, The Big Jamboree makes a qualitative leap forward in its way of showing the product that has been in the blood for so many years. They have opted for quality in all aspects, such as the production carried out by the well-known Mike Mariconda, or the record label El Toro Records very representative of this style. This last album takes us back to the 40s and 50s with the best Jump Blues, Rhythm&Blues and Rock&Roll of the time and that, for the first time in the discography of the band, has a great number of own compositions.
THE BIG JAMBOREE offers the public something more than good music from the 1940s and 50s, it also offers a dose of good humour and visual spectacle to have fun, socialize with people and above all spontaneity and freshness that makes them unique in their genre.
